English column: It's a fat, fat world

And we are constantly getting fatter.

In Sweden, the number of overweight people has doubled in the latest 20 -years. 500 000 people are suffering from obesity, which is every ninth person. Now, overweight and people’s weight in general is a very touchy subject, and that is exactly why I am writing about it. It is an issue which could be directly dangerous to ignore, because something needs to be done.

In America, the fattest country in the world, are two of three adults overweight. Now, maybe that could have something to do with the fact that cash cows like McDonald’s and Coca Cola are originating from there, and company’s like those are getting their piggy banks overweight as well. McDonald’s, for instance, was covered very thoroughly in the documentary “Super Size Me” by Morgan Spurlock, where he ate nothing but their products for a whole month. During that period, he didn’t just develop overweight and a big belly, life was pouring out of him as coke was pouring into him. If you haven’t seen that movie, you should. You won’t be feeling for a Big Mac for a while after that, trust me.

McDonald feeds 46 million people each and every day – more than the population of Spain. A burger, anyone?
